The sheriff's office responded to the Chevron Gas Station on East Boundary Street just before 1:30 a.m. When they arrived, deputies found 27-year-old Tony McGowen of Wallace Street lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Augusta University Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. While investigating the scene, deputies were told that another victim of the shooting had been brought to another area hospital with a gunshot wound to his back.

Jones was arrested and charged with murder, aggravated assault, criminal attempt armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He is being held at the Charles B.
