Around 7:30 p.m., Borger police received a call from Golden Plains Community Hospital about two teens who had been transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Police determined a group of people had gathered at the north parking lot of Huber Park when a 40 caliber pistol was produced.

Police are not sure how, but they say a single shot was accidentally discharged.

The single bullet hit both 16-year-old Gage Nolen and 17-year-old Brayden Elrod.

The two teens were rushed to nearby Golden Plains Community Hospital where Nolen was pronounced dead.

Elrod was flown to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo for further treatment.

Elrod was struck somewhere in the torso. His condition has not been released at this time.

Police are not certain where the handgun came from, but believe it is not stolen.

Investigators are working to determine why the weapon went off. They do say no foul play is suspected.

No charges or fault has been established at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
