AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - To help facilitate a ramp improvement project, the Georgia Street exit from Interstate 40 westbound will close for two months starting Monday, June 4.
Drivers who typically exit Georgia Street from I-40 westbound will need to exit Crockett Street and continue on to Georgia Street.
"For people who exit Interstate 40 Westbound to get onto Georgia Street, you're more than acutely aware that there's not much room to work with," said TxDOT Public Information Officer Sonja Gross. "Drivers are fighting for their place in the lanes, there's not that many lanes to choose from to begin with."
The right lane of I-40 westbound will also be closed from the Crockett Street overpass to the Georgia Street overpass, to maintain a safe work zone.
"We can never stress enough the importance of slowing down, not just through construction zones, but on the roads in general," said Gross.
Message boards are in place to alert area motorists of the changes and extra signage will accompany them as well.
