AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - With 10 new RV sites at Lake Meredith, the National Park Service expects at least 40,000 patrons to visit the lake and surrounding areas this weekend.
They added the increase in tourism at Lake Meredith also impacts area businesses.
"They're not just spending money here at the lake," said Park Ranger Carl Brenner. "They're spending money for lodging, food, snacks, bait and tackle. Boat sales and ATV sales have also been coming up as things have been getting more popular here at the lake."
Owners of the mom and pop shop Maxine's said being one of the only local small businesses near Lake Meredith continues to help the town of Sanford and surrounding communities continue to thrive.
"Whether it's Fritch or Borger, shopping local supports Mom and Pop facilities," said Co-Owner of Maxine's David Vanover.
Being in a town of roughly 146 people, Vanover hopes this increase in traffic will continue throughout the summer.
