AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Through the ACE scholarship program, qualified students are awarded payment for tuition, fees and books for up to 130 semester hours at Amarillo College or West Texas A&M University.
AISD School Board President, Jim Austin, said the board requested an opinion from The Texas Attorney Generals Office on the district's future involvement with the program.
"We wanted to make sure that there was criteria that went along with the scholarship program, and so that has been put in place," said AISD School Board President Jim Austin. "We wanted to make sure we understood the per forma that went with it, that being the dollars and cents risks that went with it because it's a commitment over a long period of time," said Austin.
Austin added the school board wants to ensure independent school districts can in fact contribute funds to a scholarship program for graduates of the district to attend a community college.
ACE requires those interested in applying for the scholarship program to pledge annually to maintain at least an 85 GPA, a 95 percent attendance record and appropriate behavior while attending high school.
