AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - New construction in Amarillo's medical district could expand health care options for all Panhandle residents.
Construction projects are popping up all over Amarillo.
Whenever a construction boom happens, the people who benefit the most from it can be the residents.
One area in the Panhandle that is in the midst of a big construction boom is Amarillo's medical district.
So far, three projects are currently being built. One project manager says there are even more projects slated, and waiting for approval from the city.
One project is a new hotel.
The once vacant property where the hotel is being built was sold in October for an estimated value of $4.5 million.
In late November, a contracting company filed paperwork to build a Best Western micro-hotel.
Micro-hotels stand to benefit smaller communities because the size of the projects is a lot smaller, but the finished project provides the same amenities as a standard hotel.
Construction for this project began toward the beginning of 2018.
New lodging in the area will help provide a place to stay that is in close proximity to the hospital for families of patients.
The other two projects are located a few hundred yards from BSA and Northwest near the corner of Outlook Drive and Research Street.
One project is a senior assisted living center, while the other is a new rehabilitation hospital.
New additions to the medical district are being done in order to provide better health care options for patients across the Panhandle.
More facilities, means more options, which translates to an increased ability for residents to receive the specialized care they need.
While a few lots still sit vacant with for sale signs, a project manager told NewsChannel 10 not to be worried, those pieces of land may already be sold and awaiting approval.
The new four-story Best Western hotel has an estimated size of more than 53,000 sq.ft.
As of now, the hotel project is slated to be complete and open for visitors some time in winter of 2019.
