AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Eligible students will now be able to apply their Pell Grant money to summer courses, thanks to a new provision in the Federal Pell Grant Program.
Previously, students could only receive the grants for fall and spring semesters.
Being able to apply the funds to courses year-round will allow students to complete their degrees at a faster pace.
"It is a provision called Year-Round Pell and it presents students already receiving Pell money with an excellent opportunity to take advantage of summer classes and stay on track toward graduation, event complete their degrees faster," said Kelly Prater, director of financial aid at Amarillo College.
Students who attended college on a full-time basis during the fall and spring semesters used their available funds by the time the summer came around. Now, additional funding will allow students to enroll in at least six credit hours over the summer.
