AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Members of the Amarillo Tai Chi community participated in performing exercises and moves for World Tai Chi Day on Saturday.
Those who attended at Sam Houston Park performed the gentle exercise simultaneously with thousands of Tai Chi practitioners around the globe.
The public was invited to join, watch or learn the ancient Chinese martial art.
Nathan Foust, a participant in the event, said Tai Chi could help to promote a more peaceful world.
"This energy, the peace and harmony, we hope that this would spread throughout the entire globe, all over the united states and other countries as well," said Foust. "We're living in such times of turmoil as we speak right now. Everybody's angry and no one's at peace with themselves."
Over 80 nations participate in the world event each year.
According to proponents of the practice, Tai Chi could help to promote personal health and well being.
