Around 8:30 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of West Tierra Blanca Road on reports of a 33-year-old man who had locked himself inside a home and was possibly suicidal.

When officers arrived, they smelled natural gas coming from the home. Clovis Fire Department personnel were able to shut off the gas to the home.

Negotiators attempted to communicate with the man and convince him to leave the home, but he would not comply. Police say he was armed with various knives.

Around 11:30 p.m., the man exited the home. As he was being escorted to an ambulance, the man began to struggle with officers and injured one officer.

That officer's injuries were not life-threatening.

Once the man was under control, he was transported to the Plains Regional Medical Center for treatment.
