AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Two locations in Amarillo are now rezoned to deal with alcohol sales and service for two separate areas of town.
City Council approved the two ordinances at this evening's meeting.
The first business is MJ's Saloon, located on Olsen and Hobbs.
While MJ's does currently sell alcohol on the premise, they were initially licensed as a restaurant and needed a specific use permit to correct that.
"They're not operating as a restaurant, they're operating as a full service bar and so once they were made aware of that violation they've worked with us very closely to come into compliance," said AJ Fawver, Planning Director for the City of Amarillo.
The second business is to re-purpose the old York Tire building on 45th near Coulter.
"They're looking to put a micro brewery in there," said Fawver. "So that also requires a specific use permit to allow them to sell alcohol there on the premise. that will be their major function the sale of alcohol."
The city said it's important for any alcohol and beverage business to do their homework as they proceed.
"To make sure they have their approvals in place that makes the process much smoother for development," said Fawver. "It eliminates an issue where they have to come back later and add some additional steps which can cost time and money ultimately."
Even though the city has approved the ordinance, it's now up to the applicants to follow up with the process to promptly open their doors.
