Texas Panhandle War Memorial recognizes veterans of three different wars

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Area veterans were honored on Sunday at Randall County Veterans Park.

The Texas Panhandle War Memorial hosted a ceremony recognizing those who served during Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Gulf War.

Fred Rangel, President of the Texas Panhandle War Memorial, hoped the event will send a message to today's youth.

"It is for the generations now and the future generations so they can learn about what I went through in Vietnam and what others went through," said Rangel. "If it wasn't for the veterans and the ones who sacrifice and the ones who return, we wouldn't have freedom. We wouldn't be here."

The event featured retired US Army Colonel Clayton Hoffman as a guest speaker.

Three wreaths were laid a the memorial to honor those from the three separate conflicts.
