CANYON, TX (KFDA) - The communication department at West Texas A&M University is working hard to stay ahead of the curve.
Through their Vision Planning Committee, changes are being implemented to enhance the quality of the university's media communication program.
Starting with a name change from mass communication to media communication.
A Live Lounge is also being implemented designed to host students, faculty and community members in the KWTS studio, where local musicians can perform live.
"We have to stay cutting edge. We have to stay current with what's going on in our industry, then we have to stay current with our technology," said Director of Broadcasting Randy Ray.
Ray said the department must train students for jobs that may not even exist yet.
"There's lots of things that our students are capable of doing, we just have to prepare them," said Ray.
One communication senior said these innovations show how invested the department is in the success and future of its students.
"I feel like I've had a lot of real life experience here at WT. They have really taken it seriously to equip students to make sure that they feel confident going into these real-life jobs with the experience we've had in class," said WT Senior Halle Hebbel
The Department of Communication is scheduled to host an official ribbon-cutting and launch party on April 24 at 4:00 p.m.
