WEST TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY, TEXAS (KFDA) - The Texas A&M System Board of Regents has approved the $38.8 million for the construction of the new stadium at West Texas A&M University.
The stadium will allow the team to move from the 58-year-old Kimbrough Memorial Stadium, which was recently purchased by Canyon Independent School District.
According to WT's Vice President of Business and Finance, Randy Rikel, this was the last step before construction can begin.
WT administrators hope the new stadium will bring more people to Canyon and to the school's campus. There are also plans to open up 26th Street, making it a tailgate area and a parade route on game day.
Construction of the new stadium is scheduled to begin in May, and the project is expected to be complete in August of 2019.
