DONLEY COUNTY, TX (KFDA) - One person has died after a two-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon.
Around 2:00 p.m., 53-year-old Samuel Williams was driving a 2017 semi-truck heading west on US-287 near Clarendon.
DPS officials say 71-year-old Donna Mays was driving a 2006 Ford Focus heading east on the highway. She rapidly approached a pickup truck in front of her, and the pickup had the hazard lights activated.
Officials say Mays attempted to avoid colliding into the pickup causing her to lose control of her car. Her car then traveled over the center median crashing head on with the semi-truck.
Both vehicles caught fire and were completely destroyed.
Mays was pronounced dead on the scene. Williams and the passenger in his car, 53-year-old Geneva Williams, were able to exit the car. They were both transported to the hospital in Amarillo.
The crash remains under investigation.
