CANYON, TX (KFDA) - Canyon city commissioners just created a calendar to finish their plan to expand the Canyon East Subdivision.
Canyon Mayor Gary Hinders says the plan to expand East was created 20 years ago, so the project won't cost tax payers any money.
"The beautiful thing about this is there is no additional cost to the citizens of Canyon," said Hinders. "The water and sewer had been foresighted by early city fathers."
Hinders said the city has been saving up for the $3 million project.
"We have reserves and we are taking $3 million out to do that," said Hinders.
An area of the North Side is also being annexed, and Mayor Hinders says these projects will help the demands of Canyon's growing population by adding well over 100 homes.
"Canyon is really seeing a boom in the building business," said Hinders.
Mayor Hinders says if the city continues to grow, even more homes will need to be built.
"It's an important part for any city to be vibrant, you need good growth, and we are excited we are seeing that in Canyon right now," said Hinders.
