AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Amarillo College is hosting a hazmat workshop this week thanks to a grant from the Department of Transportation.
The grant provided vital hands-on training to 20 members of the Amarillo community free of charge.
Employees from the trucking industry, Pantex, and EMS learned new rules to regulate and handle hazmat for travel while ensuring safety.
"When the participants complete this three day class, they will become certified train-the-trainers," said Amarillo College Director of Outreach Jeff Wallick. "They'll be able to go to companies, agencies, counties and actually be able to train their employees."
The certification is given by the Partnership of Environmental Technologies and Education.
This developmental class is set to be an annual occurrence.
