Delicious Wishes Burger Bash aims to make wishes come true

The 2nd annual Make-A-Wish Delicious Wishes Burger Bash is almost here, and there is still time to purchase a ticket to help the organization raise money to fund wish granting across the Panhandle.

This year's Burger Bash is Sept. 28 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Cornerstone Ranch Event Center in Bushland.

The event will feature a variety of unique burger creations from local restaurants and cook teams that are vying to win the title of 'Best Burger in the Panhandle.' There will also be live and silent auctions, live music from Chancy Bernson and an open bar.

Attendees will witness a surprise wish reveal where a local child will learn his wish is coming true. They will also hear from a local 5-year-old whose wish to meet Willie Nelson came true just a few months ago.

This is Make-A-Wish's largest annual fundraiser and comes at a time when the demand for wishes in our area is at an all-time high. The organization is seeing a 22 percent increase in wish referrals from area doctors for children who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening condition.

However, funding is not matching up with the demand for wishes in our area.

Make-A-Wish North Texas serves the entire Texas Panhandle and anticipates granting more than 30 wishes this year. The average wish costs $8,000 to $10,000. That means the organization needs to raise more than $300,000 this year.

Make-A-Wish officials hope Burger Bash can help them reach that goal so no sick child will be turned away.

"Wishes are a profoundly effective way for children to cope with and conquer critical illness," said Alba Austin, the development officer for Amarillo's Make-A-Wish office. "They spark the imagination and power essential to hope. Families are uplifted and communities are forever enriched. We cordially invite the community, as well as businesses and media to join us for this memorable evening. Wish kids are being referred at an all-time high here in the Amarillo area, and your support is crucial."

Burger Bash tickets are $50 per person. They are being sold online in advance and at the door on the day of the event. To purchase a ticket, click here.
