CLOVIS, N.M. (KFDA) - UPDATE: The victims have been identified as David Lopez, 43, of Clovis, and Carlos Gallegos, 25, formerly of Albuquerque.


The Clovis Major Crimes Unit is investigating two Thursday morning homicides.

Around 4:15 a.m., the Clovis Police Department received a call from a subject who said a person had been shot at an apartment in the 1000 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Officers responding found a 43-year-old David Lopez lying on the floor unresponsive. Officers and an ambulance crew of the CPD began lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful. The man died of his injuries.

During the initial call, officers responding to the scene located a vehicle near the intersections of Aspen Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.  The vehicle had run off the road and hit a fence. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Carlos Gallegos of Albuquerque, had no signs of life.
The Major Crimes Unit is investigating both incidents as homicides and say they are connected.
