CASTRO COUNTY, TX (KFDA) - Xcel Energy is working to repair a major transmission line that was heavily damaged during Friday's storm near Dimmitt.
The storm downed 44 wooden H-frame 230-kilovolt transmission structures spanning seven miles. The structures fell across two highways and 13 county roads.
Xcel said that stretch of transmission line will need to be demolished and rebuilt. It is estimated the line won't be restored to service until May 31.
However, power will be rerouted on the network so customers won't be affected during the repair process.
In addition to the transmission line, 14 poles, eight cross arms and several other lines were damaged on Xcel's lower-voltage distribution network.
As of 3:50 p.m. Monday, power has been restored to all customers except for six irrigation well customers. The company anticipates power will be restored to those six customers late Monday afternoon.
