CLOVIS, N.M. (KFDA) - A Clovis man has pleaded guilty to the November 2014 stabbing death of Ariel Ulibarri and has been sentenced to life in prison, according to the Ninth Judicial District Attorney's Office.
Matthew Jennings, 28, arrested for first degree murder a month after Ulibarri was found deep in the Goodwin Lake Trails. Her body was discovered only after her child led another visitor to the area.
Police connected Jennings to her death after his DNA appeared on the knife found at the scene of the crime.
"I can't understand this senseless act, there was no reason for it," said Judge Drew D. Tatum, who presided over the case. "My heart and prayers go out to this family and I pray they can begin healing."
