AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - A farmer traveling across the United States is hoping to change the lives of veterans one mile at a time on his John Deere tractor.
C. Ivan Stoltzfus began his cross-country journey on Oct. 15, 2016 in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania and arrived in Amarillo Saturday afternoon.
He is now headed to the West Coast.
"I'm going across America for our veterans, who pay the price so that we could be free," said Stoltzfus. "I see America as one big family, and family members take care of each other. My heart goes out for those guys that have done so much for me. I was never in the military, but I feel like I took my freedom for granted and this is my one way I wanna pay back."
Stoltzfus is driving a 1948 John Deere tractor across America with the goal of raising $1 million for the non-profit organization Across America for Wounded Heroes. So far, he has raised more than $40,000.
Stoltzfus hopes his trip will raise awareness about the military men and women who have made sacrifices for our country. He says this is the least he can do to honor those who fight for our freedom.
