Shamrock volunteer firefighter injured in Wheeler Co. fire

WHEELER COUNTY, TX (KFDA) -

Shamrock Volunteer Firefighter James Moya was the person injured during a blaze in Wheeler County Thursday.

Moya was operating a motor grader when the injury occurred. He sustained burns to 30 percent of his body and was transported to the Lubbock Burn Unit.

According to family members, Moya remains in critical but stable condition.

His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with medical costs. If you would like to help, click here.

The McDonald's in Shamrock is hosting a fundraiser for the Moya family on Tuesday, Mar. 28. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., 20 percent of all sales will be donated to the family.

The Shamrock Volunteer Fire Department is also hosting a bake sale to raise money for Moya on Saturday, April 1 at Mitchell's Family Restaurant.

The Wheeler County Sheriff's Office estimates the fire is about 90 percent contained as of Friday evening. Several hundred acres have burned and crews continue to work hot spots that are still smoldering.

The fire began Thursday afternoon near Pakan Road and County Road X. 

The fire was one of three fires that burned in the area.
