A congressional inquiry into Russian interference in the presidential election that has so far unfolded behind closed doors moves into the open with a public hearing featuring FBI Director James Comey.

Representative Mike Conaway (R-TX) attempted to use his wife's love of the Texas Tech Red Raiders as an analogy for rooting interests while he questioned Comey on Russia's preference between Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Comey said his wife automatically roots against anyone that plays her favorite team. He was trying to find out if Russian President Vladimir Putin just hated Clinton or if he also liked Trump.

"Putin hated Clinton, he liked the person running against the person he hated," said Comey.

"That might work on a Saturday afternoon when my wife’s Red Raiders are playing the Texas Longhorns. She really likes the Red Raiders.  But the logic is because he really didn’t like Presidential candidate Clinton, he automatically like Trump," said Conaway.

"The part is logic. Whoever the Red Raiders are playing, you, by definition, you want their opponent to lose," said Comey.

"You believe that the FBI was consistent through early December and on that that was the case?" the GOP lawmaker asked. "That they assessed that they really wanted Trump to win it, and they were working to have him win and her lose?”

"Yes,” Comey responded. "Our analysts had a view that I don’t believe changed from late fall through to the report on January 6th that it had those three elements.”
