AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - The Amarillo Fire Department will begin performing maintenance on the city's fire hydrants until April.
Captain Larry Davis said the annual maintenance ensures the proper operating of each hydrant and ensures they are meeting state and federal regulations. The flushing process helps remove corrosion, scale and sediment that accumulate naturally over time.
Davis said slight discoloration to your home's water supply is possible when a nearby fire hydrant is being flushed. The natural sediment causing the discoloration is not harmful, Davis said, and opening the home's cold faucets to flush the lines will help the water return to normal.
The maintenance will be performed daily from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
