#PerrytonFire: 100% contained, maps clarify impacted areas

OCHILTREE COUNTY, TX (KFDA) -

The Perryton Fire in Lipscomb County is now 100% contained. 

The Texas A&M Forest Service tweeted a map depicting the impact of the 'Perryton Fire' on four Panhandle counties: Ochiltree, Roberts, Lipscomb and Hemphill.

The fire burned more than 318,000 acres and destroyed multiple structures.

Eastern areas of Lipscomb and Hemphill Counties were most affected in the fire, according to Texas A&M’s maps. 

The 'Perryton Fire' is now the third largest wildfire in the history of the Texas A&M Forest Service. The 2006 'East Amarillo Complex Fire' was the largest and the 2nd largest was the 1988 'Big Country Fire' near Abilene.

The agency also said it will be helping with recovery efforts in the area through Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.
