Applications being accepted for the Amarillo Zoo crew volunteer spring training class

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) -

 Applications are now being accepted for the Amarillo Zoo crew volunteer spring training class.

The spring training class will be held on March 21, 23, 28 and 30 from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. You must attend all 4 sessions to qualify as a Zoo volunteer. The training sessions will include topics in safety, interpretation, animal husbandry, and wildlife education.

You must be 13 years or older and commit 8 hours a month to the program. There is also a $25 registration fee that covers the cost of your uniform tee-shirt, name tag and binder.

Volunteer assignments include assisting in special events, field trips, education, keeper assistant, horticulture and exhibit guide.

To be eligible to attend the training class you must fill out an application and go through an interview process. You can apply on-line at the Zoo’s website www.amarillozoo.org or applications can be picked up in person at the Zoo. Applications must be returned no later than March 10, 2017.

Zoo Crew Volunteer Requirements:

Adults (at least 18 years of age)  
• Applications are accepted year round
• Complete an application and have an interview
• Have background check completed
• Must offer a minimum of 8 hours of volunteer work each month to remain active
• Complete volunteer orientation/training
• Complete volunteer training for your area of interest

Teens (13 to 17 years of age)
• Applications are accepted year round.
• Complete an application and have an interview (parent or guardian is also required to attend)
• Must offer a minimum of 8 hours of volunteer work each month and 48 hours of volunteer service during the summer
• Complete volunteer orientation/training
• Complete volunteer training for your area of interest
