AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - The westbound bridge on Interstate 40 at Bushland will partially reopen to traffic next week following Monday morning's accident in which a semi-truck veered off the interstate, striking the bridge over RM 2381 before catching fire.
The Texas Department of Transportation's Bridge Division has determined that the bridge is structurally sound, but will be restricted to legal loads only.
At this time, work continues in determining the necessary repairs and the length of time it will take to complete those repairs.
Westbound I-40 will reopen to traffic on the inside (south) lane with narrow shoulders starting on the morning of Tuesday, March 7.
Until then, westbound I-40 traffic will continue to be detoured at RM 2381 onto the frontage road.
RM 2381 is anticipated to open to traffic with reduced lanes starting the week of March 13.
In the meantime, the northbound and southbound RM 2381 will remain closed and the current detours will remain in place:
- Southbound RM 2381 traffic is detoured west to Adkisson Road
- Northbound RM 2381 traffic is detoured east to Arnot Road
