AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Plans to build the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center appear to have been put on hold.
TTUHSC officials told the Texas Tribune earlier this week that the system has "placed the veterinary school on pause." Spokesperson Brett Ashworth declined to comment further on the matter, but the Tribune's report questioned the decision as a sign of the school being unable to secure state funding in time for Legislature in the spring.
Announced last spring, TTUHSC envisioned the new college as a way to connect the lack of quality veterinary graduate programs in the Panhandle to the area's profitable beef, dairy and swine industries.
Administrators had set Fall 2019 as a tentative date for the inaugural program.
