Annual Women in Science Endeavors (WISE)

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - The annual Women in Science Endeavors (WISE) workshops for 6th through 10th grade girls are set for 8 a.m. Saturday at the Amarillo College Washington Street Campus. Activities will take place in Parcells Hall, Warren Hall and the Science Lab Building along Southwest 24th Avenue.

There were close to 200 girls from Amarillo middle schools and high schools, and also from schools in the Region 16 area who went to the meeting.

The event aims to engage girls in science, technology, engineering and math in a fun and exciting way, with an end goal of driving them toward science and technology studies and careers.

Each girl had the opportunity to participate in several activities relating to a variety of professional fields including engineering, medicine, environmental science and mathematics.

The event is organized and supported by Xcel Energy, Pantex, Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Amarillo College, Amarillo Independent School District, West Texas A&M University, Bell Helicopter and Just Tees'n.
