RANDALL COUNTY, TX (KFDA) -

One man is in custody after a high speed chase on I-27 ended in a fiery crash.

A report of a stolen vehicle led Canyon police to try and pull over the car near I-27 and Hunsley Rd. around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said the driver did not stop and headed north toward Amarillo at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control, crashed into the center barrier, and then attempted to flee on foot.

Canyon police and bystanders were able to apprehend the suspect a short distance from the crash.

Both lanes of I-27 between Rockwell Rd. and Canyon were closed for a time while authorities investigated the scene. Those lanes have since been reopened.
