AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Kids always try to collect as much candy as they can on Halloween but at least two local dentist offices are asking kids to give them their candy -- to give to troops.
Kool Smiles, off of Bell St., is hosting their annual Operation Troops Treats program.
Each year, Kool Smiles collects candy to send to troops overseas. Any child who brings in 25 pieces of unopened candy will receive a new toy.
The program is open to everyone, regardless of whether they are Kool Smiles patients. There is a limit of three toys per child and toys are distributed on a first-come, first served basis.
The program ends Saturday, November 5th.
Kool Smiles isn't the only one sending some sweets to our troops.
Amarillo Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, in Wolflin Square is doing the same thing but with a little twist.
Trick of Treaters who bring in excess candy will be paid $2 per pound for up to three pounds of candy.
Every year, Amarillo Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics collects between 200-300 pounds of candy, which is shipped to dozens of soldiers serving in the military.
