Road rage incident continues in APD parking lot, officer injured

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Authorities are investigating an apparent road rage incident between two women that ended in the Amarillo Police Department parking lot and with minor injuries to an officer.

Corina Lechuga Dawn, 40, was booked into the Potter County jail on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a public servant early Saturday morning.

Police say a driver called 911 and told a dispatcher Dawn was trailing her and ramming her car repeatedly. The caller was instructed to drive toward the police department office downtown and the two were later seen entering the parking lot at a high rate of speed by a police officer ending his shift.

The off duty officer said Dawn continued to hit the victim's car as they drove through the parking lot and out the opposite end onto S. Taylor Street. The victim then led Dawn on a circle route back to the APD parking lot, where the officer drew his weapon and commanded both of them to stop before another yet another lap ensued.

The officer was able to make contact with Dawn once she stopped, but she refused to exit her vehicle. When the officer attempted to turn her car off, she put the car in gear and accelerated with him halfway inside of it, according to police.

The two eventually crashed into a concrete barrier. Several other officers were then able to assist Dawn and the officer, who sustained injuries to his lower body during the incident. Dawn was uninjured.

The officer was treated for his injuries at an area hospital and later released.
