AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) -

Police have an arrested an area man suspected of stealing a pickup truck and evading the officers trying to recover it.

Christopher Preciado, 40, is currently booked into the Potter County jail on multiple charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Around 3 a.m. Friday, the Amarillo Police Department says officers saw Preciado driving a pickup truck with covered license plates southbound on Dumas Drive. Preciado did not stop when officers attempted to pull him over near Northeast 11th Avenue and Taylor Street and sped away to escape the area.

A short time later, the truck, later determined as stolen just hours before, was found unoccupied in an alley on Garfield Street. Police then found Preciado hiding in the backyard of a residence a few blocks away.

Preciado was also booked on three city warrants and a parole warrant.
