AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) -

Authorities continue to investigate a fire that broke out North Amarillo this evening.

Around 6:00 p.m., nine units from the Amarillo Fire Department were dispatched to a house fire in the 1400 block of North Johnson Street.

Crews knocked down some of the fire from the northeast exterior of the house and entered.

18 firefighter went in the home, but quickly determined the fire was too strong for an interior attack and retreated outside.

Upon leaving the house one firefighter had a mirror fall on top of him which trapped him inside.

After being separated he announced a "mayday" over his radio, signifying he was lost or trapped.

Other members of the force broke a window to rescue him.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities believe the fire started near the fire place, and the cause has been ruled as undetermined.

The structure is estimated to be a total loss.
