PAMPA, TX (KFDA) - Ryan Kelley, the man accused of of shooting Pampa Police Sergeant Houston Gass, was found guilty of Attempted Capital Murder of a Peace Officer.

Kelley was also found guilty of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant and found not guilty of Assault on a Family or Household Member.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the Aggravated Assault charge and 40 years for the Attempted Capital Murder charge.

His prison term will be served consecutively, meaning Kelley's sentencing totals 50 years.

On Sept. 29, three days into the trial, both sides delivered closing statements in a packed courtroom.

Franklin McDonough who represents the state reiterated to the jury that any doubt they have must be reasonable. But the defense continued to argue Kelley did not hear the officers state they were in the home, as they say he was asleep.

McDonough however responded with telling the jury the Pampa police has a job to do when someone calls 911, and that's what they did, as officers were in their lawful duties.

Kelley pleaded not guilty to all three charges of Assault on a Family or Household Member, Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant and Attempted Capital Murder of a Peace Officer.

Gass tells us he would like to express his gratitude to the Pampa Police Department and those in the community who have offered their prayers over the past year.
