AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - With the changing seasons, Center City is ending one community event while starting up another.
Jazztober returns to Amarillo October 4th. It's an event for the wine enthusiasts, the downtown crowd, and the causal jazz listeners.
"It's just that neat atmosphere in the fall," said Center City Executive Director, Beth Duke. "The weather's usually perfect, you sit in the shade and just enjoy the music. It's a fun time to come after work and unwind."
Jazztober is one of Center City's fairly new events, as this is only its 5th year but with every year, the crowd seems to get bigger.
"We started out with about 100 people every Tuesday night, and last year we broke record,"said Duke. "We had about 160-170 people."
And Duke expects another record this year. New jazz bands will take over the porch steps of the Bivins Mansion every Tuesday during October -- while the public enjoys for free.
"We starting planning in May. We just want people to bring what they want to eat and drink and enjoy the music," said Duke. "So, we're trying to show there's a lot of free activities downtown."
This fall concert comes at a good time. especially as Center City ends their Amarillo Community Market this weekend that's been running this summer.
"We started July 9th with about 35 vendors and it has grown. We now have more than 84 vendors on our roster and we're averaging between 64-70 vendors every Saturday," said Duke. "And because this is our last one, we're expecting the merchants to really bring a big inventory."
The last Amarillo Community Market will be this Saturday, from 10 a.m to 2 p.m at 10th and Polk.
The 5th annual Jazztober starts October 4th:
October 4th - Patrick Swindell & Pizzazz
October 11th - Antonio Charles & The Fwoods
October 18th - The Martinis
October 25th - Amarillo College's Jazz Band
Starts at 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It's free, so bring a chair, blanket, dinner, and beverage.
