AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Texas Tech School of Pharmacy has partnered with the Amarillo VA Health Care System to provide vaccines to Veterans and their spouses who are not VA patients, but who are eligible for Medicare or Tricare.
The vaccines are being offered on weekdays from Sept. 26 until Oct. 7, from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the VA's Kollmar Conference Room (2nd floor), located at 6010 Wallace Blvd. West.
Vaccines will also be offered in the evenings on Sept. 27, Sept. 30, and Oct. 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the front lobby.
An additional clinic will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 8:00 to noon in the front lobby.
Vaccines are free for Medicare and Tricare eligible spouses. Spouses who are not eligible will be charged $40.
This unique arrangement allows for couples to get immunized at the same time in the same place for their convenience. Each year, this event has been successful in getting many Veterans protected from a dangerous illness.
Dr. Richard Siemens, Amarillo VA Chief of Staff, is a strong backer of the annual vaccine.
"If we are ill with the flu, we may not be affected much, but we could greatly affect the people around us and those we care for," Siemens said.
Employees are also offered free vaccines to protect themselves and their patients.
Veterans may call the hotline 806- 468-1890 any time to get the latest information about the clinics and the vaccine availability.
