POTTER COUNTY, TX (KFDA) -

County officials have brought homicide charges against an Amarillo man suspected of assaulting a person who later died from his injuries.

Jon Aaron Kennedy, 31, was indicted in Potter County last week. Authorities believe Kennedy attacked and critically injured 53-year-old Carl Morris Edwards on July 16 at Elwood Park in Amarillo. Edwards was treated at an area hospital for his injuries but died Aug. 4.

Investigators obtained a warrant for Kennedy's arrest and detained him the following day. He remains jailed with bond posted at $50,000.

If convicted, Kennedy could be sentenced to up to 99 years in prison.
