The APD to participate in 2016 National Night Out

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - This year the Amarillo Police Department is participating in the National Night Out, a program through the National Association of Town Watch that benefits all neighborhood watch programs.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live.

The event will take place on Oct. 4.

There are several different ways you can be involved. Some neighborhoods will have a cook out at a central location, while others will just get out and walk the neighborhood to get to know their neighbors.

The police believe the night is about getting outside, locking your doors, turning on your outside lights, and getting to know the people that you live by.

Members of the Amarillo Police Department will be available that evening to come by every event to get to know our community as well.

Any Neighborhood Watch leaders requesting an officer to come and visit with your group can contact Officer Jeb Hilton by phone at 378-4257 or email at
