PORTALES, N.M. (KFDA) - Eastern New Mexico University has set a personal record with 2016 enrollment.
6,014 students have enrolled in ENMU this fall, the highest enrollment the college has seen in its 82 year history.
Enrollment for fall 2015 was 5,946 students.
Undergraduate student numbers total 4,593 and graduate enrollment is 1,421.
ENMU's enrollment in fall 2000 was 3,581 and has grown by 68 percent to the current 6,014.
"We are obviously very pleased with the fall's record enrollment," President Steven Gamble said. "Our faculty and staff worked hard to make this happen, and it feels good to go above 6,000 students for the first time ever."
First-time freshmen increased 2 percent and graduate students grew by 4 percent.
Residence halls and the schools newly-renovated campus apartments were also filled to capacity.
In the Aug. 19 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education Almanac, ENMU was identified as the 18th fastest growing public master's institution from 2004-2014.
"When people ask me about Eastern's years of continual growth, I credit the institution's 'personal touch,' commitment to 'student success' and low cost as primary reasons." Gamble said.
