POTTER COUNTY, TX (KFDA) -

According to the Potter County Sheriff's Office a body has been found in a ditch at 400 West Cherry Ave. near Highway 287.

The Potter County Sheriff's Office has reopened Cherry Ave. It was previously blocked off to reroute traffic during the investigation.

Deputies on scene believe the body had been there for around a week. A tree-trimming crew near the scene stumbled across the body Thursday.

Sheriff Brian Thomas said a cause of death has yet to be determined, but said Special Crimes was called to the scene due to the suspicious nature of the incident.

Authorities have not released an identity on the person, but staff reports from the scene Thursday afternoon were that the victim appeared to be a black male. The Potter County Sheriff's Office later confirmed the victim was a male.

An autopsy has been scheduled in Lubbock for the morning of Aug. 26.

Those with any information are asked to call  Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 374-4400.

This story will be updated with the latest details as they become available.
