CLAYTON, N.M. (KFDA) -

Authorities say 433 pounds of marijuana and a stolen firearm were found during a traffic stop just north of Clayton Tuesday.

The Clayton Police Department estimated the value of the narcotics around $2 million. Both occupants inside the car were arrested and charged with felony possession.

Chief Scott Julian said the investigation was a joint effort between the city department and the Union County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said they received information about the possible narcotics shortly before the two suspects drove through the area.

A 9mm pistol was also discovered during a search of the vehicle. Police say the firearm was reported as stolen.
