AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Authorities continue searching for a man who fired gun shots as an Amarillo officer was attempting to pull him over Thursday night.
The suspect led officers on a chase near 22nd and South Nelson Street just before 10 p.m. in what police believe was a stolen pewter-colored pickup truck. The Amarillo Police Department said an officer identified the truck's stolen license plates and tried to initiate a traffic stop before at least half a dozen shots were fired.
The officer was not injured in the incident.
Police reported finding the abandoned vehicle on fire a short time later on a rural road just east of Amarillo. Shell casings were also recovered near the original scene.
Anyone with information is urged to call Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 374-4400. A tip leading to an arrest of the individual involved could earn a cash reward.
