AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) -
Amarillo police say a car that fled the scene of a collision that left a young boy in life-threatening condition has been identified, but no charges have been filed.
The Amarillo Police Department says investigators have made a preliminary identification on the white Ford Mustang that allegedly fled the scene shortly after a major wreck on Amarillo Boulevard near Martin Road Sunday night.
No further information about the car or driver was released.
Officials believe the car was racing against 20-year-old Jose Herrera, who crashed into a pickup truck attempting to turn onto the road. The wreck caused the bed of the truck to separate from the cab.
Police suspect speed and alcohol were primary factors in the collision.
An 11-year-old passenger in the truck was ejected from the vehicle and taken to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition Tuesday.
A minor traveling with Herrera received an alcohol consumption citation shortly after the incident. No other severe injuries were reported.
