Walgreens attempted robbery suspect now in custody

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - UPDATE: The identity of the suspect in the Walgreens attempted robbery is 35 year old Gerald Neil Russell.

Russell was booked into the Randall County Jail for Attempted Robbery.


Early this morning around 8:30, APD arrived at the Walgreens store in the 4700 block of Canyon Drive on an attempted robbery call.

A white male suspect entered the store and handed an employee a note demanding narcotic prescriptions and stated that no one would be hurt if they cooperated.

Once the employee refused to give the prescriptions, the suspect left and was last seen walking west from the Walgreens.

The suspect is described as a white male about 5'8'' tall, with dark hair and a goatee. He was also wearing an orange shirt with blue and white stripes and black jeans.

No one was injured in the incident but anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to call the Amarillo Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 374-4400.
