AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - An Amarillo man who apparently assaulted another person at Elwood Park last month is now being charged with homicide.
Jon Kennedy, 31, was booked into the Potter County Detention Center this week for the alleged killing of 53-year-old Carl Morris Edwards.
On July 16, Amarillo Police Department officers were dispatched to the park on a fight call. Witnesses reported Kennedy was in the street and began fighting with people in the park. After this confrontation, there was a report of Edwards being assaulted by Kennedy.
Kennedy supposedly fled the scene before police arrived. Edwards was transported to a hospital in critical condition and died Aug. 4.
Special Crimes investigators were able to obtain a murder warrant for Kennedy and he was arrested Aug. 5.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the event to call the Special Crimes Unit at 378-9468 or Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 374-4400.
