BUSHLAND, TX (KFDA) - Falcons for Funding is hosting a meeting tonight to talk about increasing school taxes.
The group is a public action committee made up of parents, teachers and property owners in the Bushland School district, according to information they provided.
They are looking at possibly raising the tax rate beyond the rate previously capped by the state through a tax ratification election. That would override the cap of $1.04 cents per $100 of taxable property value but not exceed the ultimate state limit of $1.17 on rates, said Ronny Tomas, a member of Falcons for Funding.
The school board would have to put a rate increase proposal on the ballot for the public to decide. The next election date is Nov. 8.
This is intended to maintain the quality of the district and the value of property, according to the group. The group says it has no affiliation with the school or administration.
Tuesday's town hall will start at 6:30 this evening at The Church@Bushland at 1800 Farm-to-Market 2381.
