APD investigates after child gets into car with stranger

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Amarillo Police want to remind  parents of basic safety rules when it comes to children after a child was coaxed into a car by a stranger Sunday morning.

The incident happened in 800 block of south Maryland just before 10. Police say a Hispanic male in a gray four door vehicle asked the child to get into the car and help him find a dog.

The female child agreed, but got out a block away and went home. The child was not injured.

This incident remains under investigation.

With children being outside so much more in the summer, it's a good idea to remind them of basic safety rules: Don't speak to or approach an unknown adult that asks for help.

Don't get into a vehicle with an unknown adult.  Remind them to tell their parent or guardian immediately if someone tries to get them to get into a vehicle with them.

Teach children that any adult or older child that wants them to go anywhere without their parent's permission could be a dangerous stranger.
