AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) -

Special Crimes confirms the young female victim found at T-Anchor Lake is Alexis Wartena, a 7-year-old with autism who was reported missing Tuesday.

An autopsy performed Thursday in Lubbock revealed Alexis drowned in the playa lake located just north of the La Kiva Motel. The Wartena family told police they had been staying at the motel when Alexis disappeared.

The area around the lake is now covered with messages of support, flowers, stuffed animals and more in memory of the young child.

Amarillo police ended a widespread search effort Wednesday afternoon shortly after a body, only confirmed as a 'young female' at the time, was found earlier in the day.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Special Crimes at 378-9468.
