City to put off city manager search

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - AMARILLO, TEXAS (KFDA) - The Amarillo City Council has decided to suspend its search for a new city manager.

"The council screened a good pool of candidates with extensive experience and proven track records," said Mayor Paul Harpole in a written statement. "

However, with large developments like the recent study of best practices for the police department to be implemented, a potential bond election for construction projects throughout the city and the ongoing discussions about bringing a AA baseball team to the city, Harpole said it is important to stabilize those issues and to revisit the recruitment process in the next 12 months.

Interim City Manager Terry Childers will remain for at least the immediate future, said city spokeswoman Sonja Gross.
